Um Al Shuhada’ School in Year 2016-2017

“Kafr Yahmoul”, northern Idlib countryside, has been through a relentless bombardment triggered by its location near the road that links Idlib to its outskirts in the north.

The majority of schools has been wrecked and put out of work by partial damages,

a situation that increases congestion in working schools and overloads the few teachers who exert multiplied efforts to deliver education correctly amid absolute lack of education supporting tools.

In ways to retrieve the students’ right to their dreamed education,

we collaborated with “Insani Team for Humanitarian Initiatives to operate “Um Al Shuhada’ School” in northern Idlib countryside, “Kafr Yahmoul”, for year 2016-2017.

The project aimed at supporting the delivery of education services throughout one school year in morning and evening shifts.

The total number of registered male and female students reached 291 in addition to 21 employees in teaching and administration positions.

We Materialize their Dream

A student who braved multiple displacements tells us:

Since after my father died, I had to work and help my mother earning our livelihood. I used to attend a school at morning and sell some handmade crafts, that my mother do at home, in the afternoon. After my school had been bombarded, I could not pursue education. The nearest school to my house was at one hour’s walking distance.

I used to bring books to home and study some lessons with my mother. When this school opened its doors, I applied and got accepted. I am very happy by taking the first steps towards my goal.”

She pursued with a smile…

“I dream of becoming a doctor who heals the sick and wounded.

A teacher explains the situation of a student who suffers speech difficulties…

He used to live with his family when a bomb wrecked the house over their heads. He survived with his elder sister and his father. However, his mother and his younger brother lost their lives under the rubble. Badr could not fathom this incident and began to suffer from speech difficulties. Together with his relatives, we try to help him overcome the crisis. He is also making every effort to cooperate with us.”

Adding:

“He is a hardworking and well achieving student. Friendly and helpful to his friends, he tries to help them with their lessons.

Implementation the school

Implementation Phases:

At the beginning of the educational year, we undertook restoration works while teachers register male and female students to different class levels.

During preparation, the city was bombarded again and the need aroused for some reparation works for doors, windows, rest rooms, boards, and electricity circles.

Also, we provided all education services including payment of teachers’ salaries, provision of heating during winter, and distribution of stationary supplies and schooling tools to teachers and students alike.

Together and with You, We Keep on Going

At the end of the school year, we turn out a new page in which we try to maintain support to the children’s dreams, those children who never lost hope.

Despite the aggressive deportation and the repeated displacements, and although their schools and cities are laid waste, they try to reach their goals. Let’s help them realize their dream.
