Winter clothing funded by Qawafel for Relief and Development

Clothing for the needy children As means to meet winter needs of poor students, “Beyaz Eller” has purchased and distributed clothing sets consisting of a rain jacket, rain boots, scarves, caps, gloves, and socks. The project was implemented in Idlib suburbs and northern Homs countryside with a total of 525 benefiters.

For children, winter clothing is not a luxury. Syrian children suffer from dreadful freezing conditions, particularly those living in tents that lack even the simplest heating equipment and/or supplies. To survive winter, children add layers of clothing to protect their bodies against changing winter temps, which raises the need to undertake winter-oriented relief projects to help them overcome these harsh conditions.

Cases from the Field

Dropping school for fear of cold

In the besieged northern suburbs of Homs we met one of 275 kids who benefited from the project.

A determined Survival

A mother of one student, of 250 benefiting from this project in Idlib suburb, says:

He was 12 years old but looked weak and sickly. When we asked about his schooling he confessed that he more misses school due to the cold as he doesn't have suitable clothing that causes him embarrassment among his peers.

I so I work in the evenings.“Since I have lost my husband to war, I look after my children and try to raise them properly. I have worked in a food store but the pay is not enough to suffice basic needs. So I sometimes offer paid housekeeping services to gain more income.”Adding:“this clothing saved me a bulk of expenses that would have normally gone to food and livelihood basics.”

Affecting students and parents alike

Parents are also affected. One parent of three children said he putz one of his kids in a morning school and another in an evening to be able to share clothing after failing to afford it for all.

We continue to support you

As  thus it is necessary to apply these projects to aid such Syrian families to get through the winter. To aid parents who were displaced and lost their jobs due to the constant war.
