Distribution of Food Baskets to Displaced and Deported Households

Distribution of Food Baskets to Displaced and Deported Households

As the Syrian conflict hits new levels of brutality, food production has steadily deteriorated while continued siege and blockade of main road obstruct the accessibility of aid supplies. As a result, besieged cities and displacement zones suffer unprecedented increase in food prices which challenge families’ ability to afford basic needs. Last year, reports showed that some civilians had died of hunger, having failed to get sufficient food.

The humanitarian suffering has remarkably increased following the recent incidents in 2016; hundreds of thousands fell under near to complete siege, and many areas encountered intensive shelling. In turn, host cities received new waves of migrants and suffered a dire shortage in food supplies.

Hence, there is a desperate need for urgent food assistance through distributing food baskets to besieged families and IDPs.

The Project aims at:

- Preparing baskets of basic food supplies that every Syrian family needs. Each basket will contain food sufficient for a five-member family throughout one month.

- Distributing food baskets on a monthly basis- each is worth $35 in northern Syria, and $40 in besieged areas.

Project Objectives:

- To alleviate the financial and psychological burden of displaced, besieged, and needy families.

- To provide food supplies that suffice a family throughout one month, thus contributing to its psychological wellbeing.

- To limit the spread of malnutrition and consequent diseases.

- To secure daily food needs of displaced and besieged families.
