Beyaz Eller Provides a Portable Bakery to Starving Families in Syria

In a country where bread symbolizes survival and prosperity, the hope of getting one loaf after 12 hours of queuing before a bakery shop is dwindling. Supply chains that worked many local bakeries were broken after successive attacks on flour mills and bakeries. In addition, profiteers resell the rarely available flour at phenomenal prices. The most unfamiliar weapon of civil wars has taken lives of quarter a million of starving Syrians- reportedly.

To alleviate part of the humanitarian repercussions, Beyaz Eller established a portable automatic bakery to produce 40,000 loaves/day. The project provides daily bread to 5,000 families in besieged cities and counties. Thanks to our generous donors, we have raised $348,738 for this project. This came under Beyaz Eller’s Food Security and Livelihood Program that aims at alleviating the suffering of displaced Syrians, preserving their human dignity, and enabling them a sustainable livelihood.
