Portable Automatic Bakery in Tal Qerah

Portable Automatic Bakery in Tal Qerah

The black market that feeds bread to millions of Syrians is controlled by combatants who, besides starving people into submission, inflate prices of available flour to over 90%. The price of one kilogram of flour soared from 16 SL in 2010 to over 70 in 2015. In addition, electricity cuts renders most working bakeries out of work. The price of one bread pack increased from 15 SL in 2010 to 50 in rural counties in 100 in cities. Direct attacks on local bakeries and civilians seeking bread make the Syrian conflict the most tragic humanitarian crises in the 21st century.

Beyaz Eller is an authorized Syrian institution that works in the field of development and humanitarian relief. Under Food Security and Livelihood Program, it established a portable automatic bakery in Tal Qerah- northern rural Aleppo. The bakery provides 5,500 bread packs to the afflicted population at affordable prices. Serving 10,000 locals of Tal Qerah and nearby counties, the project amounted to $92,400, and came in continuation of Beyaz Eller efforts to alleviate the suffering of afflicted Syrians, preserve their human dignity, and enable them a sustainable livelihood.
