Beyaz Eller Provides Flour to Three Local Bakeries in al-Ruston

Al-Ruston, a small county 20 km northern Homs, was subject to persistent blockade and bombardment by pro-Assad forces. As 7,000 families fled the county in one month, in addition to 200 families emigrating every day, prices of flour and bread increased grotesquely. To provide bread at affordable prices, or even free of charge, Beyaz Eller provided three local bakeries with 600 tons of flour, 6 tons of yeast and 6 tons of salt. It also supplied the bakeries with fuel, salaries and plastic packages. The end product amounted to 690,000 bread packs that satisfied needs of 25, 565 families for three months. The project was worth $486,003, and came under Beyaz Eller Food Security and Livelihood program that aims at alleviating humanitarian suffering, preserving human dignity and enabling sustainable livelihood.
