Beyaz Eller Distributes 263 Tons of Flour to Three Syrian Bakeries in the North

Bread is the staple food in the Arab world, a ‘morsel of life’- without which life is unimaginable to Syrian families. Control over wheat farms, flour mills and bakeries shortens the road to winning an ongoing six-year-old conflict. It is such a powerful weapon that clashes arise at every chain of its production. The Syrian regime bombards local bakeries in besieged areas, and, in case they keep working, it blockades their access to flour. As a result, prices of flour and bread skyrocketed, especially as profiteers control smuggled quantities.

To help Syrian families earn living, Beyaz Eller bought 263 tons of flour, 2.6 tons of yeast and an equivalent quantity of salt. These were distributed among three local bakeries in the Syrian north, to produce over 302,450 bread packs for the afflicted population. The project reached 11,200 individuals every day for a three-month period. Thanks to our generous donors, we have been able to raise $78,813 for this purpose.

This came under Beyaz Eller Food Security and Livelihood Program that aims at alleviating humanitarian suffering, preserving human dignity and enabling sustainable livelihood.
