Idlib …Fleeing to the Open

Fleeing to the Open

Described as the largest forced displacement wave in the past few years, figures collected by international organizations on the ongoing population movement from eastern Hama and southern Idlib countryside reflect only a part of the truth.

As people abandon their homes in the embattled areas, the range of movement extends continually to include new areas and villages, which challenges all estimations of displaced population number.

Statistics for the period between 15/12/2017 and Tuesday 09/01/2018 indicate th

at 41,306 families, around 219,967 individuals, have fled towards 314 points on the Syrian-Turkish borders.

The IHH in Turkey estimates that 400,000 IDPs will reach the borders, induced by violence and ongoing conflicts.

Escaping death, the displaced population stays in the open where no roof or wall, not even a tent in the desert, keeps their children together. They are wearied by the cold weather, hunger, and fear, lack all life necessities, and more suffering awaits them in the freezing winter nights.
