Beyaz Eller Establishes the First Portable Bakery in Tal Mardikh

In what appears as the official policy of pro-Assad forces to starve opposition areas into submission, bakeries, hospitals and schools have been subject to continued offense. By 2014, wheat cultivation retarded by 40%, to reach 1.25 hectare- compared to 2.5 in 2010. In black market, the price of 1 kg of flour reached 70 liras- compared to 16 in 2010. As a result, bread started to disappear. To alleviate the pressure over bakeries and avoid direct devastation of new installments, Beyaz Eller established a portable bakery in Tal Mardikh- Idlib, to provide bread for local families at affordable prices. The project came at a cost of $ 226,315, and followed Beyaz Eller Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) program that aims at alleviating the suffering of displaced Syrians, preserving their human dignity and enabling them a sustainable livelihood.
