Beyaz Eller’s ‘Blanket’ Distribution Project Reaches 14,625 Syrian Refugees

With increased emigration and local displacement, host Turkish cities suffer rising pressures to accommodate the humanitarian needs of many afflicted families. The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency of Turkey (AFAD) estimated a number of over 800,000 Syrian refugees in Urfa, between March 2011 and June 2015. Hatay received 250,000 Syrians while Keles has 50,000 refugees. As a prompt response, the Turkish government offered shelter at different border and local cities; however, its efforts fell short due to the increased emigration rate. The situation has further exacerbated with life-threatening cold waves in refugee camps.

Towards this, Beyaz Eller supplied Syrian refugees in Urfa, Hatay and Keles with 4,842 blankets that satisfied the needs of 14,625 individual. The project amounted to 30,000 KWD, and came under Beyaz Eller’s  Shelter and Non-alimentary Aid Program that aims at alleviating the suffering of displaced Syrians, preserving their human dignity and enabling them a sustainable livelihood.
