8,464 Ramadan Food Basket to Afflicted Syrian Families

The Syrian nation experiences the century’s worst civil war. For the fifth year, many Syrian families hold on fasting with empty tummies; as even the simplest traditional meals became unaffordable. According to UN statistics, over 241,000 Syrians live under strict blockade that deprives them of basic food supplies. Homeless, displaced and hungry, Ramadan- the blessed month-is no happy time for Syrian children and mothers.

Beyaz Eller is an authorized relief institution that emphasizes the importance of human, particularly Islamic, solidarity. To alleviate part of the suffering, the institution distributed 8,464 Ramadan food baskets across several Syrian cities. In 2014, it successfully distributed 94,000 breakfast meals, 1,170 Zakat at al-Fitr feast, 8,850 packs of children milk, 786 feast presents, 125 tons of dates, in addition to many other projects. This came under Beyaz Eller Food Security and Livelihood Program that aims at alleviating humanitarian suffering, preserving human dignity and enabling sustainable livelihood.
