Senior Education Officer - Formal and Informal Education

Contract Duration: 1 year

Work Location:

Syria - Idlib - Kafr Nabl

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day management of education activities (formal, non-formal, PSS, teacher support, etc.) in assigned locations.
  • Ensure adherence to INEE Minimum Standards and EiE principles.
  • Monitor implementation progress and resolve issues in coordination with the Education Program Manager.
  • Supervise the distribution of learning materials, school bags, and supplies.
  • Conduct regular field visits to project sites to monitor progress, quality, and accountability.
  • Ensure inclusive and equitable education practices, especially for girls and children with disabilities.
  • Responsible for conduct and train education staff on NFE diagnostic assessments.

2. Staff Supervision and Capacity Building

  • Supervise and support Education Officers, Assistants, and other staff.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate capacity-building sessions for field staff and teachers.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, PSEA, and code of conduct policies.

3. Coordination and Representation

  • Coordinate closely with Education Cluster partners, Education Directorate, school principals, and local councils.
  • Represent the organization in local-level education and protection meetings as needed.
  • Support the establishment and functioning of PTAs, TLCs, and community engagement mechanisms.

4. Reporting and Documentation

  • Contribute to the development of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
  • Document lessons learned, success stories, and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, distributions, training sessions, and beneficiary lists.
  • Support data collection for needs assessments and evaluations.

5. Accountability and Safeguarding

  • Ensure feedback and complaint mechanisms are active and accessible in all supported learning spaces.
  • Follow up on protection incidents and referrals in coordination with the Protection team.
  • Promote safe learning environments and contribute to child safeguarding across education interventions.

Note: the above-mentioned responsibilities are key one, there might be other duties to be appointed by the direct manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, International Development, or related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in education programming in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Proven experience managing field teams and engaging with local stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of EiE, INEE Minimum Standards, and child protection principles.
  • Familiarity with donor-funded programs (UNICEF, SCHF, ECHO, etc.).
  • Strong coordination, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Arabic required; English desirable.

Ability to work under pressure and in insecure environments

  • Experience in Syria context.
  • Experience with digital data collection tools (e.g., Kobo, ODK).

Previous work with NGO/INGO in education or protection sector**.**
